Cityscape Dubai re-named as Cityscape Global
Thursday, February 11, 2010
The change in name is aimed to acknowledge the place of the event as a significant international platform in the real estate sector. Another reason for change in name is because the event attracts majority of international participants than any other cityscape event in the world.
Cityscape Dubai has not only grown immensely over the past few years, but has evolved into one of the most major real estate platforms in the world, said Rohan Marwaha, Managing Director, Cityscape.
The Cityscape Global due to be held at the Dubai World Trade Center in October, is hoped to attract several international developers, professionals and architects.
Last year the event recorded 25 percent of registered participants from outside the UAE, which translates into almost 10,000 participants flying in from 115 different countries. An equal 50-50 distribution of participants is required over the next two years, said Marwaha.
Marwaha also confirmed participants of Dubai major developers such as Nakheel and Emaar. The Cityscape Global will witness six conferences run simultaneously, while the delegates will be able to access any of the sessions across any of the conferences for a single price. The Cityscape Global will also gain a facelift with newly introduced business initiatives such as Cityscape Connect, City Leaders Forum and CEO Breakfasts.
However, Marwaha confirmed that Cityscape Abu Dhabi will remain unaffected and retain the same name, as that event focuses on development projects for Abu Dhabi alone.
Cityscape Global is a platform which showcases real estate opportunities globally and offers access to investors from across the world.
Cityscape is the largest business-to-business real estate investment and development brand in the world, comprising series of major exhibitions and conferences that take place in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Asia, Latin America, USA, India and Russia.

Cityscape real estate show unveiled
Tuesday, October 06, 2009
The floor space used by property developers were lesser by 30 percent compared to last year, while attendance during the four-day event is hoped to drop by 20 percent this year, according to organizers. Last year's event saw the participation of 1500 companies from 150 countries.
Over the past couple of years, Cityscape has been a venue to unveil new projects. However, this year only nearly-completed developments and pre-announced projects have been featured.
According to Cityscape Managing Director, Rohan Marwaha, people are not expecting multi-billion dollar project launches or major finance deals at this year's event.
Nakheel, major master developer in Dubai had earlier announced plans to build a kilometer tall tower, competing with Emaar, who's nearly-completed Burj Dubai is already the world's tallest building stands above 800 meters in height. However, no impressive displays of the towers have been on the show this year.
Nakheel has confined to a scale model of completed Palm Jumeirah, the only one completed among three man-made palm shaped islands, apart from other smaller projects. Projects of several other developers on the show remain in the "concept" stage.
Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi developers are seen to have made a stronger presence by occupying larger portions of this year's show.

Nakheel and Emaar confirm participation in Cityscape Show
Monday, September 28, 2009
The leading property developers known for their major projects such as man-made islands and world’s tallest skyscraper had earlier cancelled their participation in the show, which illustrated a shift in focus amidst the real estate bust towards completing existing projects, rather than rolling out new ones.
In their statements to the media, the companies mentioned that they will participate in the two-day property fair, due to begin in Dubai on 5th October.
The decision follows discussions with several agencies involved in organizing the event. The company will make use of the event to explain its growth strategy of expansion and further explore new possibilities in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia, says the statement by Emaar.
Meanwhile, Nakheel has stated that the company decided to participate following discussions with several industry stakeholders, including partners and leading event organizers.
The company's focus will remain on delivering units and services to existing investors and focus on exhibiting communal properties on several of its developments nearing completion, Nakheel mentioned in its statement.
Organized by IIR Middle East, the Cityscape Dubai 2009 will be held between the 5th and 8th October 2009 at the Dubai International Exhibition Center.

New futuristic District for Abu Dhabi unveiled during Cityscape 2009
Wednesday, April 22, 2009
The details of the project were revealed during the Cityscape Abu Dhabi 2009, the largest real estate exhibition, which began in Abu Dhabi yesterday.
The entire project would take 25 years for completion and will be built on 50 million square meters of land, almost twice the size of Yas Island. On completion, the Capital District will serve as a second downtown and can house a population of 370,000. The district will offer a mixed-use, sustainable environment featuring commercial, residential, retail and community groups.
Other vital aspects of the masterplan are the schools seving both Emirati and expat community needs, universities, medical campus, higher education amenities and bio-medical research facilities.
Located between the Mohammad bin Zayed City and the Abu Dhabi International Airport, the Capital City District will blend national government institutions, Emirati culture, and city life by offering a fusion of distinct districts interlinked by grand boulevards, open spaces, shaded streets and world-class public transit system.
Located at the heart of Capital City District will be a Federal Precinct, which serves as the national seat of the UAE government. The Capital Boulevard would include Federal ministries and government offices providing a dramatic connection to the Grand Mosque and Presidential Palace.
There would be a total of seven grand boulevards, representing seven emirates, connecting the city center with surrounding districts. The boulevards would help in effective traffic movement within and out of city. An interlinked street system is also an integral part of the master-plan, which encourages walking in the shaded and landscaped pathways. There are also dedicated bike routes offering a safe and convenient alternative travel option across the city.
The residents and visitors of the District can gain access to two main types of streets - the retail streets lined with shops, restaurants, cafes and plazas and the relaxing neighbourhood streets.

Cityscape Abu Dhabi 2009 opens with fresh hope to tackle crisis
Monday, April 20, 2009
The four-day annual property exhibition, Cityscape Abu Dhabi 2009, has been unveiled at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center on Sunday. The show involves participation of both regional and international investors, government authorities, real estate developers who intend to discuss the current market challenges and strategies to tackle them.
The event was inaugurated by General Shaikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. When touring the exhibition, General Shaikh Mohammad was briefed by exhibitors about their developments.
There are about 40 or more participating companies in the event. An executive from Sorouh Real Estate said that few developers have been offering affordable housing for all levels of income. This is an important development, as earlier, only prominence was given only for high-end property developments, he added.
A senior executive of Aldar Properties, one of the largest property development companies in Abu Dhabi, Ousama Ghannoum, said that several banks and finance houses have come forward offering loans to potential buyers, which would generate interest in various developments in and around Abu Dhabi City and the emirate.
The Managing Director of Ascon Group, Abid Junaid, said that this year's Cityscape is hoped to re-instill the consumer confidence in the property sector and help in revival of the sector.
Abu Dhabi has a better hold and can capitalize on the relative weakness of other property markets facing turmoil and uncertainty due to global economic recession. This is because the emirate has the largest sovereign wealth fund and the long-term plans for continued real estate and infrastructure development.
This year's Cityscape is likely to be 32 percent bigger than its last year's edition and covers a gross area of more than 38.000 square meters.
New projects are to be announced at the exhibitions, including one by Aldar Properties.
Cityscape Abu Dhabi to kick-start on 19th April
Saturday, April 18, 2009
This year's event is hoped to be 32 percent bigger than last year's event, and would cover an area of more than 38,000 square meters.
Ever-since its launch in 2007, the Cityscape Abu Dhabi has grown considerably year after year.
This growth will continue this year too, due to expansion of ADNEC's exhibition facilities to create the largest exhibition center in the Gulf.
This year's event has six additional halls, making the event to span across 9 exhibition halls, apart from the Atrium.
The Cityscape is an annual networking exhibition and conference that focuses on all aspects of property development. It attracts property developers, regional and international investors, lead architects and designers to an annual forum that celebrates the best in architecture, real estate, urban planning and design.
The event is open on the said days from 10am to 7pm at ADNEC.

Abu Dhabi property market indicates strong confidence
Sunday, March 08, 2009
Speaking during the first Cityscape Connect Business Breakfast in Abu Dhabi, about 150 real estate executives and investors got together and discussed the current challenges faced by the market, ahead of Cityscape Abu Dhabi, due to take place between the 19th and 22nd April 2009 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center.
The global economic turmoil has cast a shadow over the property sector, growth prospects and changing market dynamics, said Rohan Marwaha, the Managing Director of Cityscape.
The Cityscape Connect initiative is introduced by IIR Middle East, the organizers of Cityscape Abu Dhabi. Speaking during the session, Marwaha, said that this year's event is quite strong with the growth of 30% of last year, and 48% increase in advance registration of visitors.
Charles Acworth, Director-Research and Head of Commercial Leasing for Aldar, said Abu Dhabi is the 'location of choice in Middle East' for retailers.
He expressed strong confidence in the Abu Dhabi retail market, hotel and residential sectors. Though some "reworking" is still being done, there is an undersupply of residential property for end-user occupiers, and the situation is hoped to continue for next five years.
Speaking about the residential market, Gurit Singh, the Chief Property Development Officer of Sorouh, said that stability is likely to return to rental marked within four quarters from now, depending on supply of new properties to the market.
The Managing Director of Burooj Properties, Adel Zarouni, said that the overall growth of Abu Dhabi property marked is genuine, and is not affected by speculation.
The Legal Consultant with Clyde & Co., Scott Ajtken, said that the only challenges identified are the need to find new finance options for new developments and the need for regulations covering both developers and investors.
Cityscape Abu Dhabi 2009 has generated good response and support from industry leaders.

Cityscape 2008 witnessed more visitors, lesser sales
Saturday, October 11, 2008
This year's Cityscape has seen everything, starting from the one-kilometer tall tower, to hanging gardens, mergers, royal visits and an island museum.
The event saw the participation of about 150 countries. According to the Managing Director of Cityscape, Rohan Marwaha, the opening hours of the event was extended by an hour each day due to exceptional public demand.
He said that this indicates the uniqueness of Cityscape Dubai, as it is not a retail event where people gather to buy individual properties. Rather, it is an investor-level, international business-to-business show.
A major strength of Cityscape is that it offers access to few of the wealthiest and most liquid property investors in the world, he added.
However, although the Cityscape organizers claim that there has been more interest this year from investors, compared to last year, the property sellers reveal that potential buyers are scared of investing.
A sales executive of RAK Properties, who spoke to Gulf News, said that sales in Cityscape 2008 were a little low compared to last year.
Mansoureh Ghezipour, a property consultant, Best Homes Emirates Real Estate said that although people trusted the market last year, this year they are hesitant to invest, although the number of visitors are more.
According to Sikander Aziz, Sales Executive, Bonyan International Investments Group, interest of visitors is high, but buying is low. This could be due to global liquidity conditions, he added.
Ian Albert, Regional Director, Colliers International, said "Investors this year are more cautious, and there has been greater degree of diligence. An air of cautiousness is seen seeping in from the general feelings of the international market."
The event ended on a high note, with a visit by H.H. Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

With the announcement of new projects in Dubai, the total value of the projects developed in the city would touch Dh.1.3trillion, to be developed within next 10 years.

In the opinion of few experts, the global crisis may prompt more Arab money which has been invested in the US and Europe, to flow back into the region.
Dar Al Arkan's project was displayed on the 3rd day of Cityscape 2008. One of the most ambitious integrated luxury-mega resorts, the 'Boris Becker Beach Resort & Tennis Academy', was unveiled by the Tennis legend himself.

Dubai Municipality was honoured during the Cityscape Dubai 2008 awards, for carrying out outstanding renovation work on mosques of historic Shingadha, and for its renovation on Dubai’s Old Souq and the historic Bastakia and Deira.
Tamweel PJSC, the largest real estate finance provider in the UAE has met with considerably enthusiastic response for its finance offers at Cityscape Dubai 2008, with more than 470 property registrations completed right on the first day of the event, indicating the eagerness of the market for well-priced properties.
Tamweel had offered upto 90 percent finance for visitors who register for pre-approval facility at the company's exhibition stand, with no arrangement fee upon registration on few select Tamweel properties. Cityscape Dubai 2008 unveiled at Dubai International Exhibition Centre
Monday, October 06, 2008
The Managing Director of Cityscape, Rohan Marwaha, said "With the world facing market uncertainty, we enter a new era in which the Middle East developers are expected to maintain or even increase their presence across the world."
The intensity and scale of the iconic projects, is one of the most impressive property booms in modern history that has kept the UAE and Dubai in particular, on focus worldwide for most of the decade.
However, a report by the property consultants Colliers International stated that Dubai prices would drop by 16 percent during second quarter of 2008, and will remain flat until 2010, which came as bad news just prior to opening of the seventh Cityscape Dubai.
The report suggests that the Dubai market is due for a 10 to 20 percent correction, with the supply outstripping demand.
In the meanwhile, on the stock market front, the shares in Dubai's biggest publicly quoted developer, Emaar, dropped by another 12 percent.
However, irrespective of all this, Cityscape Dubai is confident about the turnout, and hopes to see about 1000 or more exhibitors over 75,000 square meters. According to the organizers of the show, this four-day event taking place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre currently, will attract record numbers.
As a pre-exhibition booster, the leading Dubai-based developer Nakheel, on Sunday, announced plans to build a tower that is more than a kilometre in height, as a part of $38bn project, thereby keeping up the reputation of the emirate as the one with sky-high ambitions.
